Case Studies

Wondering what Resilient By Design does and how it works? These highlights will give you a sense of the variety of engagements and scopes of work that are possible.

Design Thinking for Educators
Integrating design thinking, its concepts and its interactive tactics into classroom instruction offers untold potential for our upcoming generation to approach problem-solving in new ways. The first step is to teach the teachers and get them excited about the possibilities.

  • Who: Alamo Heights Independent School District
  • What: “Introduction to Design Thinking for Educators”, a 3-hour interactive workshop
  • Outcomes: Participating teachers enthusiastically embraced the concepts, participated in discovery, ideation and prototyping exercises that they could in turn use with their students in their classrooms, and enumerated cross-curricular opportunities to incorporate design thinking at the elementary and secondary schools.

Ideation Workshop for National Consumer Packaged Goods Giant
Innovation in crowded industry categories is nothing less than challenging, yet it’s vital to category leaders in order for them to maintain their edge. So, how do you energize an experienced team and elicit innovation when there seems to be none left? Through an ideation workshop grounded in design thinking.

  • Who: National CPG Company (client confidentiality prevents more specific information)
  • What: “Ideation for Innovation”, a 2-hour interactive and facilitated brainstorming meeting
  • Outcomes: Participants generated dozens of viable ideas previously untapped in product development, in-store merchandising, consumer engagement and shelving adjacencies, many of which are in production and scheduled for retail trialing in fall 2011.

Leading Innovation at a Board of Directors Retreat
Nonprofit organizations face a seemingly endless array of challenges, and volunteer boards of directors for struggling groups routinely exhaust all available resources to keep their operations afloat, including their own personal wells of ideas and inspiration. That’s when an organization needs an additional shot of energy and an outside perspective that an innovation leader can provide.

  • Who: United Communities of San Antonio
  • What: 2011 Board of Directors Retreat, a 4-hour interactive and facilitated meeting and design-thinking workshop
  • Outcomes: With Beverly Ingle’s guidance, UCSA’s leadership explored new ideas in programs, revenue sources and leadership development. The group concluded the session with clearly defined short- and long-term goals, next steps for implementation, and a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm.
